About this session

In 2019, the School of Visual Philosophy held a reading based mostly on an upcoming anthology connected to the 60th anniversary of the Barbie doll called Barbies That Were and Never Were. Edited by Eva Smith Gynn and sponsored by Flash Fiction Forum , it offers poetry and micro-memoirs featuring Barbie dolls. This reading will feature individuals reading one poem or flash piece from the reading or the anthology.

Susannah Carlson

Susannah’s work has appeared in numerous literary journals, including Sequoia, The SFSU Review, Narrative, Reed, and Sixfold. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her partner, her son, a Craigslist mutt named Lily, and Kyle, the one-eyed chiweenie.

Lita Kurth

Lita Kurth, MFA, co-founder of San Jose’s Flash Fiction Forum reading series and recipient of an SV Creates-Art Party grant, is published in three genres. Her fiction and creative nonfiction have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes and Best of the Net awards. Her CNF “This is the Way We Wash the Clothes,” won the 2014 Diana Woods Memorial Award. She teaches at De Anza College and in private workshops.

Tania Martin

Tania Martin is a writer from San Jose, California. She is co-founder of Flash Fiction Forum, a literary reading series focusing on short works . She is also an assistant editor at Narrative Magazine. She has appeared in Peninsular Literary, Rolling Writer’s, San Jose’s Art Party, and is a regular reader at Flash Fiction Forum. Her work has been included in Play On Word’s performance series multiple times. Tania works as a middle school art teacher and enjoys cycling around the bay area on her road bike. She earned a BS in Geology from UC Davis and is an outdoor enthusiast.
